The third annual Lipstick N Lead is in the record books! It was a huge success!! A big shout out goes to Wayne Mitchell and his staff for providing a wonderful venue that ensures the success of the event. Special thanks also go out to Mr. Big Guns, Profit Wise Accounting, and Church Street Wine Shop for providing breakfast, hors devours, and of course, wine. I would be remiss in not mentioning Don Padgett who is the manufactures representative for Caesar Guerini Shotguns and Perry Smith, National Sporting Clay Association Certified Instructor newcomers to this year’s event that helped tremendously as well. And of course, IHeartMedia’s Ali Lemmond and Mason who came and participated and did social media posts during the event.
But the real heroes are the ladies that participated in the event. They put aside the preconceived social morass and stepped out of their box to come and learn a new skill and benefit CASA. It isn’t easy to embark into what has always been considered male domain, but they did it and did it well!!! The funny thing about shotgun sports is that targets are gender neutral, there is no “ladies’ tee”. But more and more women are participating in shotgun sports and firearms competitions in general. Talk about breaking the “glass ceiling”, they are literally blowing holes in it!!
But back to our event. It dawned on me the true giving and charitable characteristics of women. CASA isn’t a very glamorous charity in which it is able to pull the heart and wallet strings of the masses with pictures of children and small animals. I think part of that is because the fear we all have of growing old. It is especially pronounced for women as our society places so much importance on vanity. In short, no one likes to think about getting old. They like it even less to think that they may not have the funds to provide for some very basic needs, needs that we all take for granted on a regular basis. The women who came out Saturday and participated put aside the fear of growing old and shooting shotguns to help people our society ignores. What impressed me even more were the three ladies who purchased gift certificates for their husbands to come out and shoot. Incredible acts of charity!!
I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention my wife. This event was her brainchild three years ago. She is passionate in everything she does, but truly has a servant’s heart when it comes to CASA.
